Create & Learn Raises $1.7M Led By GSV Ventures Teaching STEM To Kids

(Palo Alto) June 24, 2020 — Create

(Palo Alto) June 24, 2020 -- Create & Learn, the first company to teach computer science in small online groups, today announces raising its seed round of funding to hire more instructors and take on more students and expand across the US and, eventually, worldwide. Built from the ground up on small group, project based online learning, Create & Learn has a 2.5 year head-start with its innovative approach to teaching online in the COVID-19 era. Led by one of the founding members of the Google Cloud Platform, computer science Ph.d and Stanford MBA, Jessie Jiang was first inspired to develop Create & Learn's curriculum by teaching computer science to her six-year-old daughter and seeing the enormous gaps between innovation in the real world and what was being taught in K-12 computer science.

While the pace of layoffs might be slowing

While the pace of layoffs might be slowing down, an extended recession is forcing companies to get smarter about the way they grow. One way to stay lean and stealthy? Have a team that is constantly learning and equally flexible. Degreed helps employers do exactly that by connecting employees to learning resources to master new skills. The edtech startup today announced it has raised $32 million in venture capital in a round led by Owl Ventures, bringing its total known raised to $182 million. The company was founded in 2012.

Corporate harassment training is often

Corporate harassment training is often defined by mandatory annual workshops, stock photo-ridden curricula and, often, outdated scenarios. Harvard graduates Roxanne Petraeus and Anne Solmssen think there’s a business in doing better than that.

The duo co-founded Ethena, a software-as-a-service startup that sells anti-harassment training software that is more comprehensive and flexible than the status quo.

Moving From B.C. to A.D.

The Coronavirus has instantly forced 1.6B students and teachers online. Effectively, more than 90% of total enrolled learners and educators around the world have been thrown into the deep end of the online learning pool and told to sink or swim.

Some of these new online learners will sink. Some will crawl out of the pool and never go back in. But we believe most will get the hang of it, like it, and will no longer be confined to the shore. Effectively, the genie is not going back in the bottle… digital learning has come of age. We have a B.C. (Before Coronavirus) world transitioning to A.D. (After Disease).

Artificial intelligence has become an increasingly important component of how a lot of technology works; now it’s also being applied to how technologists themselves work. Today, one of the startups building such a tool has raised some capital, Tara.ai, a platform that uses machine learning to help an organization get engineering projects done — from identifying and predicting the work that will need to be tackled, to sourcing talent to execute that, and then monitoring the project of that project — has raised a Series A of $10 million to continue building out its platform.
